Good night’s sleep important as we age

As you age, you may be more sensitive to sleep.

Feeling restless before bed? Chances are you may have done something hours earlier that's still with you. There are two different ways to look at sleeping problems: what's going on inside, and what's going on outside. For people in their later years, it may help to kick that long-standing caffeine habit, at least according to a report from Age UK.

The source collaborated with the AARP and commissioned a report from the Global Council on Brain Health. It might not be a surprise that older people need to make sure they get the proper amounts of sleep, but the report also said that individuals over 50 years old could be subject to some troublesome changes in their sleeping patterns. Specifically, they may wake up more at night and be increasingly sensitive to possible disruptions.

These don't just include distractions in the room itself, but also mental and physical health issues, as well as certain lifestyle choices. The bottom line is: There's a real incentive to get better and deeper sleep as you get older. That should be enough motivation to change your lifestyle patterns and look for a mattress that will help you relax.

Many factors should be considered when finding the right mattress – not just determining size, but also firmness, comfort level, coil type and the foundation it rests on. You should consider all of these things as you shop for the very best bed, and make sure you find a store with enough variety to help you out.

Fortunately, Arwood's Furniture & Mattress is just that. We're Missouri's largest furniture store and will give you plenty of different ways to single out your dream mattress. Come to us when you're ready to start sleeping better, no matter how old you are, and you can find a comfortable bed.
