3 ideas for a great football watching party

Plan for a football party with these tips.

It's the time of year when everyone gathers their friends together to watch football on TV. Whether you're only paying attention to the commercials or you're a die-hard fan following every game, you're going to want to prepare before you have people over for a party. Although much of the attention will be on the touchdowns and tackles, think about the way your furniture is set up. Is there enough space for everyone?

Here are some other ideas to keep the atmosphere right as the game gets going.

1: Keep the view clear
There's nothing worse than being forced to walk in front of the TV and face the angry shouts of sports fans. Consider projecting the game onto a wall, or using an extra-large screen, to try and keep the image clear for everyone to see. You can also put the game on more than one screen to try and create multiple viewing spaces so everyone isn't crammed into one space.

Another reason you might want to do this is to help accommodate those people who only want to watch the game casually. There's nothing wrong with dipping in now and then, so why not have a space set up for easy movement between the two sections Along the same lines, you'll probably want to make a single space for all foods and drinks. Doing this can also help out during a potluck, when late arrivers might be bringing their own food and need an obvious place to put them. You can also try to set the food down in different sections depending on people's preferences.

This works better if you have two separate rooms next to each other, but that isn't always the case, so move a table from another room into position if you have to. If you have one single room, you can try to move the table far enough back from the main TV to create a sort of unofficial second room just for the food.

#3: Get creative with your seating
What happens if you don't have enough chairs in your living room already and need to make more? This piece from the Los Angeles Times suggested using a milk crate with pillows on top of it for an impromptu chair, and you can follow this advice to turn other sturdy objects into a comfortable sitting place. You can also try to find small, comfortable chairs that could fit in the same area.
