3 tips to prepare for your Independence Day BBQ party

Independence Day is just around the corner. Are you prepared to host the festivities this year? Consider these three tips as you set up your patio for the Fourth of July:

1. Create enough seating space for everyone

Whether you're inviting the whole neighborhood or a few close friends, make sure that everyone has a comfortable spot to relax and enjoy the meal. Prior to your Independence Day celebration, get an accurate headcount so you not only know how many chairs you'll need but also how much food to purchase.

If you find that you have more guests than chairs, don't panic. Your local home furniture store has you covered. Consider investing in additional outdoor seating options that you and your family can continue to enjoy after the summer festivities. Likewise, you can ask your guests to bring their own chairs – folding camping chairs are comfortable and easy to transport.

Depending on the amount of space available, you could expand your lounge area with an outdoor sectional or a bar table and stool set. Likewise, adding an outdoor sofa or bench can create additional seating without taking up too much space.

2. Form a clear walkway between the kitchen and the grill

To make sure everyone gets food hot from the grill, create a clear walkway from the kitchen to the outdoor grill. Consider rearranging your outdoor furniture so that the path is clearly marked. Then, you can easily bring ingredients to the grill without worrying about tripping hazards.

If you're hosting children at the barbeque, set up a separate eating area for them away from the grill so they can have fun without getting too close to the fire. When everyone has a place to enjoy the get-together, there's less risk of spilled food and injury.

3. Keep things shady and comfortable

The summer sun certainly makes the days more enjoyable, but it can also make your guests uncomfortable. If you don't want everyone hiding indoors with the AC on, provide some shade during your Independence Day meal. Patio umbrellas can keep your space shady and cool when the sun is at full intensity. Alternatively, moving your seating area under a shade tree can also keep guests cool. Don't forget to have cold water readily available, too!
