Warm up your decor this winter

With the temperature dropping and snow piling up outside your home can quickly start feeling as glum and gray as the weather. Winter is a perfect time to spruce up around the house and find some hidden cheer. Consider these tips for inspiration:

  • Refresh your bed: Sheets, comforters and mattresses don't get changed as often as they should. Mix and match textures, colors and patters for an inviting and comfortable bed. If you prefer neutral sheets try a new hue on for size. Hanging a mirror above the bed will also help brighten up the area via reflection, a blessing on short days with little natural light.
  • Rearrange: Focus inwards for a cozier feel on cold days. If you have a fireplace use that as your guide, turning couches to face the warmth of the flame. If you don't have a hearth decorate with a thick shag rug, woven throws and a bunch of pillows for warmth.
  • Warm up windows: Keep out the chill with some insulating window treatments. Beautiful, thick drapes in warm colors can quickly brighten up a room.
  • Color: The dull shades of winter can make many rooms look cold and lifeless. Add pops of colors and bright patterns in the form of pillows and decorations to chase away the blues.
  • Add a rug: Fluffy area rugs add both warmth and sophisticated texture to a room. Layering two rugs can add interest and make the area more homely.
