4 ways to improve your entryway

The entryway is often an afterthought when it comes to home decor, but it's the first thing guests see when they arrive. Bring this area to life by giving it a personality all its own.

Consider these four tips to refresh your home's entryway:

1. Create a gallery wall

The entryway of your home is the perfect place to display family portraits and memories. Take inspiration from your favorite art museum by hanging your family's best works where visitors can see them. Depending on your personal style, you can hang your frames in a uniform pattern, or place them in a more haphazard manner to evoke an eclectic sensibility.

Your don't have to limit yourself to family portraits. Consider sprinkling in a few drawings or other craft projects. Likewise, you can add a mirror into the mix to create more visual texture.

2. Make a place for your keys

When you have a dedicated space for your keys, you'll be less likely to lose them. Try ditching your wall-mounted key hook for a ceramic bowl on a console table. The table also adds a bit more space to this typically storage-bare area of the home.

A multi-level table can provide a spot for other essentials, such as phone chargers, incoming and outgoing mail and anything else you regularly need when leaving home for the day. For even more space, consider a console table with doors.

3. Show off your prized possessions

If your entryway leads directly into the living room, you can create a visual boundary by placing a small table at the point where to two rooms meet. Use this space to display some of your family treasures. Just make sure this display fits in with the rest of your home's decor. Simple statuettes or vases of flowers are another great option.

4. Add warmth and light

One of the best ways to refresh your entryway is to add a new lighting fixture. For an entryway with a high ceiling, consider a hanging chandelier or other vertically oriented light. Or you could add wall-mounted fixtures to bathe your entryway in warm light. This not only creates a welcoming environment but also provides much needed visibility for getting ready in the mornings.
